Feuerzangenbowle: fire-tongs punch
I'm getting better - hurrah! This afternoon I got dressed, we went for a walk, and by this evening I was back in party-mode :-)
The main purpose of our 'wee waak oot' (for this is the vocabulary we use) was to pick up a library book that I had reserved. We're reading The unlikely pilgrimage of Henry Fry by Rachel Joyce for our book group this month should you like to read along with us. We'll be discussing it on January 25th so there is plenty of time to get through it.
While we were out and about we also checked the wares of some of the Leith Walk charity shops, where we bought a red and white patterned platter for one of our Christmas cakes. The Word of mouth café was our venue for afternoon tea.
Our pal W provided the evening entertainment at her 'completely relaxed housewarming Glühwein thing' (her words). About 20 of us gathered to admire her new flat, and discover the tradition of making Feuerzangenbowle (or fire-tongs punch), as pictured. Although this is clearly something of a fire hazard, it's quite a spectacular sight, and the rum-soaked sugar loaf does add to the sweetness of mulled wine. The most enjoyable aspect of the evening was seeing some of our favourite friends in an environment where it was easy to chat. Gbees has blipped us a few of us at the party, with our hostess centre stage.
Exercise today: walking (7,465 steps).
