Remembrance?

I was a bit late walking my circuit today, mainly due to clearing up after Geoff's lunch party yesterday. It was about 1630 and the light was almost gone. I walk past this bench every time and today lying on the seat was this bunch of roses. They were lovely and tied on firmly so clearly meant to be there. The bench is dedicated to 2 people, one of who died in the September. The 2nd plaque talks about Alan Butcher, 1939 - 2013. Who "walked these woods from boy to man". I think it must be to do with him. But I have no idea.
