Mono Monday 99 :: mm99 :: MOBILE
Every time I planned an image someone else had Blipped it first!
Looking around my desk I saw this photo I have of my granddad taken during WWII. His poor eyesight meant he didn't fight or win any medals like his dad but he played his part.
On the day his unit, The Royal Engineers, were being MOBILISED to Europe a call was made on parade for anyone who knew anything about pigeons. Alf was a keen pigeon racer but had his loft taken for the war effort.
He stepped forward, identified the bird shown to him and promptly got seconded to the Royal Corps of Signals. He was trained to look after the pigeon lofts in East Angela. Definitely one way to keep messages MOBILE.
I'm not sure how long he did this for but he later went back to the RE and ended in Scotland making Bailey Bridges which helped our forces to stay MOBILE as they advanced.
The frame is one of two I have the same. I believe Alf or his dad, Thomas, made it. They look very Art Deco.
Already I can see this week's theme has produced some stunning images and clever interpretations. My job on Wednesday will not be easy.
Next week will be Mono Monday 100. I'd like to thank Paladian for coming up with the idea in the first place and to everyone who have hosted and taken part since.
Next week's theme will be CELEBRATE with the tag mm100. Spread the word!
