Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

By NannaK

for Mom

When I replaced my Dad’s photo  (HERE) on the wall next to my Mom’s I decided I needed to blip her too as a companion piece..  I also love her engagement picture from 1930… This photographer is in Chicago..Dad’s photographer was in New York, but they both have this soft feel about the  shot… Of course she needed to have her hand in the photo showing the ring.     And I wanted the memories to be about Christmas—so instead of spirits, here you have coffee and cookies  (Swedes love their coffee and cookies!)… We already blipped her sugar cookie recipe HERE and this is her “spritz” butter cookie press for her other cookie recipe that I haven’t yet managed to make..( but I will. ) The cups are lovely little demitasse cups which didn’t come out often but I do remember her using them..(good for espresso now!)

After my Dad died on Dec 12, 1985 (reason for the blip of Dec 12) of course I flew down to Arizona to be with her…. it was not a good time..  One son was still in high school, we had an exchange student from Paraguay living with us, our old Irish setter was on his last legs (I literally had to take him for a walk holding his back end with a scarf..we wanted him to last til the son in college got home) and I was trying to decorate our big house for H’s department Christmas party to be there in a couple of days.  A neighbor, bless her heart, did the decorating …greens everywhere …and the kids managed somehow.   I missed the party (fine with me)  and H made it to Arizona for Dad’s service. Then we had her come up to Seattle for Christmas.  The plane couldn’t land because of fog, she had to spend the night in Las Vegas in a motel with a strange “very nice lady” and then they flew as far as Portland (more thick fog) —the exchange student and I drove down to pick her up—I’m afraid that was his only visit to Portland and he didn’t get to see much.   We were glad to get her here for Christmas —Im sure she made more cookies!    And that’s the memory for that year..
