Seasonal Classic

Love the Christmas display at the out of town Marks an Spencer and Sainsbury’s retail complex at Hedge End near Southampton.
Maybe it’s because it is focussed on one of the most famous camper vans of all time, and now a true classic.
The Volkswagen Dormobile and its rival the Westfalia were popular in the 1960s and ‘70s, and though I never owned one, in subsequent years it was in part responsible for a number of relaxing adventures we enjoyed with camper vans , or motorhomes as they grew into.
The VW conversions enjoyed immense popularity until the later 1970s when package holidays and cheaper air travel came into its own, changing the pattern of holidaymaking for many.

Yet, Christmas or not, today I stood and drooled over this classic in the foyer to the adjoining stores.  Even forgot all about the task in hand . . . Christmas shopping!
