The Couch

Each year Dumfries and Galloway hosts one of most successful open studios event of its kind in Scotland. Spring Fling 2012 took place from 2 - 5 June and in celebration of its 10th birthday hosted a four day event including the commissioning of installation artist Alice Francis to create Couch, a temporary public artwork.

Highly visible to passers-by, Alice has flouted convention by upholstering a traditional Galloway Cottage in an archetypal floral stretch cover tailored to fit the building tightly so as to accentuate its contours and details. Materials were supplied by Plumbs. Doach Cottage (The Couch) is on the B736 between Castle Douglas and Palnackie.
