Pine straw climbing

How far is a piece of pine straw to a snail?  Does this snail ever say "am I there yet?"   And when it gets to the top, will it slide down the other side?  Or just roll up in its shell and free fall to the ground?  

Oh,  to be in the mind of a snail making a journey!
