Flower Friday . . . Pohutukawa
We are in Wellington our Capital city ready and waiting for the big day tomorrow when our son gets married. Last night there was a rehearsal in the cathedral so everyone knows where to stand and in what order things happen. This morning we went to Te Papa Museum and saw the Gallipoli exhibition. It was very moving and a must see.
It was very cool and wet this morning but this afternoon the rain stopped and we had another more leisurely walk around the Civic Square area and the City to Sea bridge which has the wonderful wooden sculptures by Para Matchitt.
Young Pohutukawa trees have been planted and they were just the right height for me to get close to. They are a native tree and have become an iconic symbol of Christmas in New Zealand with their red and gold.
I have added an extra of the photographers minder (the forester) sitting amid the wooden shapes and texting while guarding my handbag when I'm playing photographer.
