Between fen and mountains

The clock collection

I had to drive down to Essex again for the day so decided to visit the Roman legionary town of Camulodumum (Colchester), reputably the oldest town in Britain.  I spent a pleasant couple of hours in the museums and was lamenting the fact that a fine clock collection was silent when two staff arrived with a winding key.  I introduced myself as a professional horologist and gave them a few tips as to how to wind the clocks and set them going safely as both seemed a bit nervous of their responsibilities.  There was also a very colourful Victorian letterbox.

The priory in the town was a fine ruin and the Norman castle keep, the largest in Europe, an impressive edifice.  The skating on the Winter Wonderland outside rink was interesting to watch given the temperature of 14 degrees! It was more like skating on water with each skater leaving a wake of water behind them (see extra).  Any faller would certainly have needed a change of clothes!

Oh yes, it seems I have reached another milestone.
