Walk The Road

Münster of Bern

I abandoned my planned hiking trip today as there was lots of low cloud which looked as though it had no intention to shift. Instead, I hopped a train to Bern, Switzerland's capital. It is a relatively small city, perched in a bend of the river. Apart from the HQ of Schweizerische Nationalbank and the parliament building it doesn't seem like a capital city - it's much too quaint and relaxed! The most unusual thing about it is the "BärenPark"/"BearPark" (that's how they spell it, omitting the space and all!) which houses 3 brown bears just next to the river. It's not a zoo and only has these 3 bears, and it's free to walk around. I watched Finn and Björk try and maul each other's faces off while swimming for a while, apparently that's all part of the mating ritual......

Anyway, this write-up is getting a bit long! Here is a stained glass window from Bern Cathedral (Münster of Bern) - well worth a visit as it is very beautiful inside, but not in an over-the-top-Vatican-City-style way.
