Photographic basics

Blips are scarce on days like this but I found this wood pigeon down on the foreshore.

I expect most of my followers know all about the hazards of pictures using the zoom. Anyway when I downloaded it I found that its white tail was very burnt out with no detail. What to do. Crop it out of course. But then one finds that enlarging a small part of the image leads to pixellation and some blockiness. You end up with a poor picture. But needs must. And I still rather like the little fellow. So is it a bad photo or an interesting image? I don't really know.

My extra today shows that we still have lots of water. There are no streams on Arnside Knott as all the rain sinks into fissures in the limestone. It then emerges in lots of places all round the foot of the hill.
