Specs appeal

Sometime ago, I went into Specsavers for an eye test, spurred into action partly by the fact that my dad suffers from glaucoma and consequently I'm supposed to have my eyes checked regularly, but mostly by the fact that I can't read small print in the mornings or in low light.

The nice lady who carried out the test confirmed that the muscles in my eyes were weakening and that this was the cause of the problem. However, she also made the point that if I started wearing glasses then the muscles would stop working as hard and become even weaker. This was all the excuse I needed not to go ahead.

But, of course, the problem has inevitably persisted and possibly worsened, so once or twice the Minx and I have popped into shops to try on glasses and I've hated it because they make me look like some else. This irritation has been exacerbated over the last few weeks as my colleague, Tom, has started wearing glasses and his suit him so well that he looks even more like himself than he did before. His is a face that has apparently been waiting for glasses.

This afternoon, The Minx and I went to finish off our Christmas shopping and, on a whim, I suggested that we pop into Vision Express, which is just on the edge of the car park where we'd pulled up. I tried a few pairs on with the same results as previously but then I picked up these fellows. I think they look all right. I took this photo to send to the WhatsApp group I have with my older daughters and, on balance, there was cautious approval. The Minx and I are going beck on Wednesday to sort out the lenses!
