Village talent
Sunday evening, an evening of amazing musical talent.
First, on the radio, Isobel Baillie, arguably the greatest female voice of the 20th century, singing Messiah.
Then I went to a local village club for the monthly 'Open acoustic mike'.
It's the club where we have our eggs2iPads sessions and one of the performers was one of the teenage 'teachers' who help elderly 'students' to get on internet with a tablet. A really talented young lady, she's in the middle in the picture.
Another performer, at the right of the picture, is a member of our Writers Club, which also meets at the club. She has a truly wonderful voice and while the rest of us bring a short story or poem to the meetings she usually brings a song and her guitar.
The other performers were new to me: blues harp, rock, music hall, popular, and others. The range of talent in the village is astounding.
You could go to the Leeds Arena and pay minimum £20 for an evening's entertainment. I'll stick with our club, and it's free.
And you might get a final singsong, with most of the performers up at the mikes, as in the picture.
The only problem is for blippers. Very low lighting, almost nothing on the performers, means getting an acceptable image, even at very high ISO, is a bit of a trial.
