The Shortest Day...
Today is the shortest day in the Northern Hemisphere anyway :-)
The weather has been absolutely wild with strong wind and battering rain. All round miserable and my mood wasn't much better but when Alan came through for lunch with his Christmas jumper and beaming smile, it was like the sun had come out :-)) Impossible not to smile back and feel my spirits lifting.
D and I slept in the back bedroom last night as our room was dismantled in preparation for the painter. It felt really odd but in a nice way, almost like we were away somewhere for the night. My usual morning routine took slightly longer though as I felt strangely disorientated.
The painter was here at 8.00am but unfortunately he had to leave our ensuite as after all the rain, a damp patch has appeared on the ceiling indicating a problem with the roof we didn't know about! Hopefully just a tile been blown but until it's investigated and sorted, no point in painting in there. He's finished the walls in our bedroom though, just the skirting to finish tomorrow so he should only be here for half a day. That means we can move back to our room and I can start getting all the spare beds ready for our festive visitors.
Hahahaha....just realised it's 32 years today since David asked me out for the first time at our 6th year High School Christmas dance, two months after this photo was taken :-)))
No fancy hotels, limos, evening dresses, photographers, fake tans etc etc in those days. Just a school gym hall decorated in paper chains, balloons and tinsel by the First and Second years, sausage rolls and bowls of crisps in Dining Hall 2, some contraband cider and a jumpsuit with a sparkly belt and rather large padded shoulders bought in either Miss Selfrige or Chelsea Girl....actually I think it was the latter.
This was No 1 in the charts. Happy Days :D
