It portrays life in a small community set in winter in snowbound Cappadocia. A rich landlord is revealed as being loathed by many as he seems disconnected, uncaring and detached from the problems of his tenants to which he has contributed in one way or another.

The film seems to show the corrupting power of wealth and the dysfunctional force that society exerts on it's members simply by the way it is structured and organised.  People seem to have very limited power over their lives despite their good intentions..........and therefore exist in their own world, in a kind of 'Winter Sleep'.

It evokes a wonderful atmosphere that could apply to many societies but captures very much the flavour of life in winter in rural Turkey.

Based closely on Anton Chekov's short story 'The Wife'.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
