Blue sky, or grey - the camera does not lie?

These pics were taken less than a minute apart, (at 3.50pm so still just daylight) - the only difference is that I zoomed in on the moon - and , hey presto! the dull grey cloudy sky became a beautiful clear blue! The moon had been visible most of the afternoon - the sun nowhere to be seen after about 9.30 in the morning.
