Sunrise

Walking 5 hours from Wantagh to JFK in the pouring rain. Sleeping in a booth at Sunrise Diner. Having My First Flight. Lying to my dad and grandmother saying that I was in another city. Crossing Sunrise Highway.
Yeah this was a crazy and exhausting trip. But it was worth it and I hope I can do it all over again someday. The reason I came here was to pay respects to a girl who was killed while trying to cross Sunrise Highway on the way to school. Her name was Brittany Lee Vega she was full of life, always smiling, was friends with anyone she met. Ever since I heard about Brittany I just had to come and visit her. I Spent sometime at her grave site I prayed several different times for her Family while I was there. I sat by her Memorial Poll near Lukoil Gas Station and just stared at it thinking why did this have to happen. I never met Brittany yet shes one of the best people I've ever heard of. She changed me. lately I've started talking to the shunned people and been being respectful to people like she was. This trip while it was fun was tiring. I had a taxi take me from JFK to the Days Inn In Copiague NY but I found out my reservation didn't start till the following day so I spent that night wandering the streets this was after midnight by the way. I was in Copiague and later ended up walking on Merrick Road. I kinda got lost cause I could not find Sunrise Highway I come to find out that I was paralleling it. It was north of me and I was south of it walking west. But after I talked to a Nassau County Police Officer I took Seaford Avenue and walked north and found Sunrise again. By that point it was early morning and the sun was coming up and later that afternoon I found out that I could only stay 1 night at the days inn. This was on Sunday June 10th 2012 by the way. After my night at Days Inn I checked out about 10:00am and decided to head to North Babylon Cemetery where Brittany is buried at. So I walked 2-3 hours again but I wasn't tired yet. After spending about a hour and a half sitting in front of Brittany's Grave I left. It was hard to I felt great sitting there talking to her. By the time I had gotten from North Babylon Cemetery to Sunrise Mall then to Wantagh near Brittany's Memorial Pole.I was tired. sweaty. And had to spend the night at Sunrise Diner in a booth. Till about 6am. All the times I walked I had a luggage case. It had wheels so i didn't have to carry it all the time. The most tiring part about the walking was getting from Wantagh NY to JFK it was pouring with rain. The walking to JFK took place on June 12th by the way. My feet had bad blisters, my legs were tired, I was tired. It rained so hard all my clothes in my luggage case were soaked. I was walking way till after dark and I could not get a taxi because I needed to save money for getting a taxi to get home. My flight left tomorrow at 3 but I knew I needed how important it was to get there. It was a blessing to be at the airport. This trip had a lot of ups and downs but visiting Brittany was worth it. Not the way I want to meet anyone but I'm glad I got to visit her it truly was the best thing about 2012. God bless the Vega Family. God Bless Brittany. She will ALWAYS be remembered no matter how many years go by.
