The Rescue of a Bridle Guillemot

This little fellow has a charmed life. He was
found by Eva, my daughter Emma's Labrador,
struggling with what little strength he had left
to get the last twenty yards back into the sea.
As we gathered round in the early light
wondering if we could gather him up without
a bite and take him home for light refreshment
before a visit to the Sea Life Centre, we had
already been spotted by two of their staff on
Foreshore Road on the way to work. Todd and
Amy had seen from at least a hundred yards
away that it was a rescue situation and here
you see the bird in hand. It was underweight
and losing oil from its feathers. But now it could
look forward to fish aplenty to put the weight
back and rejoin its family. How well it responded
to the human handling as if it sensed all would be well.
