Christmas seals
We don't really make a big deal out of Christmas, not really having any extended family to link up with but we do love the time for reflection and just 'being' that it offers. We don't spend on gifts that we think each other might like, or mountains of food, but think about what we would like to do that it's difficult to do at other times of the year. We love the gift of time.
So, our gift to each other was to hire a car for one week so that we could go places, see people that it would be difficult if we didn't have a car.
On Christmas morning we got up quite early and headed off to the seal colony at Horsey, about 40 mins away. It was absolutely wonderful that this young seal pup (about 5-6 weeks old) had wandered up from the beach and onto the dunes. He was a real poser and so close that he was within touching distance. Not advised, so we didn't.
There were many, many seals and their pups on the beach and I couldn't have hoped for a better first time of seal-watching.
There had been a plan to go round some friends for breakfast first thing but that plan changed as their baby boy was born on the 23rd (as opposed to due date of 29th) and as Rol has a stinking cold it would not have been wise. We have seen photos and he - Ethan - is beautiful.
I wept buckets today.
