Walking with Flowers

Requiem beacon

This 22-metre high beacon is on the dockside in the centre of Gloucester. It is etched with the words of Ivor Gurney's poem Requiem. Gurney was my great-grandmother's first cousin and since his lonely death in an asylum in 1937 his reputation as a fine world war one poet and songwriter has grown. It was good to find this connection with him today.
