I'm pretty sure it's a red-tailed hawk, but it was behaving very oddly. I am standing on the trail, maybe just 8 feet away, other hikers came and went, some getting even closer with their cameras, but he didn't seem to be bothered. Clearly he was keeping an eye on us, but I fully expected he would fly away way before I got this close. It was an absolutely gorgeous day, crisp and blue, and the hike was along ocean cliffs bordering an old ranch that is now a state park and an organic farm.
