Home among the Gum Trees...
Using one of Mr R-D’s Christmas pressies…. A book and map of the local area…
We went for what we thought was a quick bush walk, using said map… well, three hours later (mainly due to my stops to photograph everything in sight)… we finally made the circuit.
I would call this Christmas present (actually a stocking stuffer) a tremendous success…. Only another 100 k’s of local bushwalking to explore!
The birds were amazing, the normal cockatoos, kookaburra’s etc., but particularly loved watching Willie Wagtails and an entertaining Golden Whistler.
Sadly, on the way home, we had to put a call into WIRE’s (a wildlife rescue organisation), as a Rainbow Lorikeet looked liked it’d broken one of its wings).
I can't believe out of all the amazing scenery and wildlife, my chosen pic of the day was this very irritating insect, about 3 inches long, black with yellow markings. It kept buzzing around my head stopping for a few second photo shoot… I’ve included an extra photo, in the hope that someone may be able to identify it!
Belated season’s greetings to all.
Home among the Gum Trees - John Williamson
I've been around the world
A couple of times or maybe more
I've seen the sights, I've had delights
On every foreign shore
But when my mates all ask me
The place that I adore
I tell them right away
Give me a home among the gumtrees
With lots of plum trees
A sheep or two, a k-kangaroo
A clothesline out the back
Verandah out the front
And an old rocking chair
You can see me in the kitchen
Cooking up a roast
Or Vegemite on toast
Just you and me, a cup of tea
And later on, we'll settle down
And go out on the porch
And watch the possums play
There's a Safeways up the corner
And a Woolies down the street
And a brand new place they've opened up
Where they regulate the heat
But I'd trade them all tomorrow
For a little bush retreat
Where the kookaburras call
Some people like their houses
With fences all around
Others live in mansions
And some beneath the ground
But me I like the bush you know
With rabbits running round
And a pumpkin vine out the back
