Life from city to village

Mono Monday - Aftermath

It is Mono Monday, and the theme is Room 101. What would I like to banish to room 101? Litter.

This is the aftermath of the floods in one small part of Leeds, where the clean up teams have not yet reached. Every plant which was underwater is coated in plastic bags, mattresses etc... It looks like a landfill down there. And this isn't from upturned rubbish bins. This is from the litter people leave on streets, casting aside, not caring what happens. Except what happens is that it ends up in the river.

The waters have receded - they are now just tipping over the brink of the river edges in places. It had been about two to four foot higher. This area pictured here is another marked for regeneration. It is a mixture of redeveloped and abandoned buildings, and there had been considerable work in the summer to clear the banks to allow the waters more space. Unfortunately, it hasn't been enough.
