Nelson Harbour
Looking SW towards Haulashore Island, further down, Fifeshire Rock, then Tahunanui Beach. The island was created when the Cut was cut through the Boulder Bank so the bigger boats could come through, named so because the pioneers hauled their boats up on the shore. Fifeshire Rock so named after the ship, Fifeshire, ran aground while trying to come into Nelson Haven between the rock and the shore. My husband's 4x Great Grandfather was the pilot but he was sick at the time so another man took his place and ran the ship aground.
