Life on the Good Intent

Rain on the 4th of July

When I got home this evening we had what we call in Scotland "a sun shower". Brilliant sun with teeming rain. As I had no blip yet I sat just inside the patio doors keeping my camera dry and enjoying the light and warmth while watching for a bird blip.
I could see my green Acer through the branches of red one both with sparkling raindrops on their leaves, so I snapped it. First shot was in mono, but it looked better than the subsequent colour shots. It was not really so dark, just me playing with the software.
As I continued to watch the rain my mind drifted back to my last summer in my old house. I met a lovely elderly father and his daughters from Scottsdale Arizona and they came for dinner. After they had gone back to their hotel I sat on my doorstep and watched the gentle rain on the garden that I had created from scratch and knew I was giving it up just as it had reached beautiful maturity. Music drifting out through the open door and windows as I sipped my wine and watched the raindrops in the pond.
Little did I know then what Hurricane Catriona was doing to the southern US and this song would become the anthem for the City of New Orleans as it struggled to recover.
