Seniority is not how high up you are

Fifteen months I've been trying to teach Salvo to climb that fence-post, then along comes a wee bairn and shoots straight up it like a rat up a drainpipe. 

As he doesn't take instruction well, I doubt that he was paying attention. He's watching now but I'm assuming kitty got there by magic.
