A berry nice, smashing picture.

Okay, this is a photo of a "painting" but since I used a camera this is technically a photo. I imagine that all of us have days when it is impossible or nearly so to find inspiration for the daily blip. One never knows where the creative spark comes from but today I had a "brilliant" idea. We don't normally use the expression in Canada but I must say it was a "smashing" idea.

Where this spark of inspiration came from I'll never know. My brain sometimes works in weird and wonderful ways. The idea was to collect some berries and smash them onto paper with a hammer. I collected cherry, red currant and saskatoon berries for starters and began by smashing them one at a time in a pleasing composition. Oh, this was fun. You can't imagine how many different ways you can smash a berry with a hammer for varying effects. Next I tried strawberries and raspberries but they tend to smoosh rather than pop. Then I tried smashing a lily leaf but that wasn't very interesting. Finally, I squished some cherries and picked up some of the juice in a syringe. I released the juice a drop at a time from different heights. I did not try finger painting with the juice or using a berry as a paint brush. I'm sure there is great potential for this new "artform".

Perhaps members more artistic than I can come up with some wonderful compositions.

Well, there you have it. I was very pleased with my brilliant idea but then my partner came home and brought me back down to earth with the comment, "You didn't use all the berries, did you?" Some people just do not understand art.
