~Higgs boson~
~"The God Particle"~
Today I heard that the "strongest indication to date" was found that a sub-atomic particle called the Higgs boson had been glimpsed at the CERN Particle Accelerator physics laboratory located on the French-Swiss border. Higgs boson particle has been given the nickname of the "God Particle".
The scientist who first proposed the existence of such a particle, some 50 years ago, an avowed atheist, dislikes the name "God Particle". He sees a danger in this nickname, he appears to be pretty smart for a scientist! Be that as it may, there is a danger, I believe, in referring to this thing as a God particle. The inference being that this particle is responsible for the creation of the the universe, and by extension, the creation of all that exists.
Please be careful in drawing any assumptions or speculations that this piece of matter is the creator of life or the cosmos. Feel free to draw your own conclusions about the existence or non-existence of a God, but do not base them on the proposed discovery of the "God Particle".
Thanks for reading, please understand my need to write about this event. I do suggest that you Google "God Particle" if your so inclined to learn more about this discovery, it is very interesting. Unfortunately the news-media tends to make more out of the Higgs boson's cute little nickname than scientist would like the direction of thought to follow.
My image tonight is a gorgeous little flower I found growing in a desert garden not far from my home, God Particle indeed!
Thanks, TucsonJim
