The mossy oak

Another year has passed, and although it has been a difficult one for the world as a whole, my blips reflect a pattern of gently continuity in our household with some notable high points, particularly our family holiday to Cyprus in March and Ben successfully settling in college in the autumn.

Unless man disrupts the natural processes, change in the natural world tends to take place slowly. This gnarled, mossy oak must have seen many New Years come and go...continuing to grow and develop, providing a home for all manner of creatures. Unfortunately the effects of man's activities are all around, even in this apparently natural forest, but it must surely be clear that we now need to take serious action to halt the damage that we've wreaked. This was acknowledged by the world at the Paris Climate Conference, but our own politicians seem to put economics above protecting the environment, which has contributed to the devastating floods that have been affecting many towns and cities in the north.

Sometimes it's hard to be optimistic, but pessimism is negative and unhelpful, so we must all try and do what we can to make the world a better place. Hopefully, all us blippers can pull together to ensure Blipfoto remains part of our lives in 2016 - I'm sure most of you will already have pledged to help set up Blipfuture, but if not you can make your pledge here.

Wishing all blippers a very happy and healthy New Year!
