Off to Loughton this morning for +1/3's first ever guitar exam. Changed days from when I were a lad, that's for sure. A perennial favourite for discussion amongst musicians of a certain age is how good youngsters have it now: my first electric guitar cost the equivalent of £430 now and wasn't a patch on the instruments you can buy for £150 now. 

The guitar exam was pretty rigorous and well designed: the set tunes are very well written; the sight reading isn't too tough and the scales and chords were spot on.

He passed, with merit!
