the Floating Christmas Tree
This is year 2 in the life of Geelong's floating Christmas tree. Apparently its reappearance was only secured after tantrums and strops were experienced inside the City Chambers! -We have a flamboyant (ex high profile paparazzi photographer) mayor.
Personally, as one attracted to unnecessary flashing lights on technology (think colour changing irons and light up kettles), I rather like this glittering, colour changing, star rotating, disco smoke emitting, floating cone, I mean, tree.
It certainly has encouraged families to stroll around the Geelong waterfront on summer evenings, and consequently, the businesses in the area have benefited by the extra trade.
We were on our way home from a NYE gathering that finished at 11pm,and decided to leisurely detour past the tree and watch the midnight fireworks. As my other half observed, it might not be up to the world class standard of fireworks at Versailles, but they were fun.
