Chester FC 1 Altrincham 1
My old school were sponsoring today's game and one of the advantages of being the club's historian and stats man is that they invited me along as a guest. I therefore enjoyed the excellent stadium hospitality that included a tour of the ground. I wasn't going to bother with the tour, for obvious reasons, but everyone on my table went on it so I thought I would tag along as well.
I was quite surprised that we went into the dressing rooms although it was still nearly two hours before kick-off. It must have been a bit uncomfortable for the players and I did mention this to a couple of them but they didn't seem that bothered.
I did get to have a chat with our leading scorer, Ross Hannah. I have been trying to get his goal tally increased by one as it is being incorrectly reported by the BBC, Sky and other websites. The problem is that all football stats are provided by OPTA, who have an ex-professional at each game, and if they make an error it gets propagated everywhere. In Ross' case they attributed a last minute goal he scored away at Welling to another player.
The players from left to right are Craig Mahon, Tom Shaw, Ross Hannah, John Rooney, Jordan Chapell, Sam Hughes.
Boring football bit - Once again Chester threw the points away. Ross Hannah scored his 16th goal of the season but they failed to capitalise on their domination and a goalkeeping mistake after an hour resulted in an Altrincham equaliser. After that Chester seemed to lose momentum
and it ended 1-1.
