Gillipaw's Journal

Dunstaffnage Castle,

Catching up on missing entries from last summer, due to lack of internet at our holiday accommodation.

Dunstaffnage Castle, built around 1275 on a huge rock overlooking the Firth of Lorn.  It was the stronghold of the Clan MacDougall.  Captured by Robert the Bruce in 1309, and in 1746 it was a temporary prison for Flora MacDonald.

We also walked into the woods and found the overgrown Chapel, with many interesting tombstones.

We drove on to Arduaine Gardens south of Oban, and later after delicious fish and chips, enjoyed the view from Pulpit Rock overlooking Oban harbour.
