We went on a short Norwegian Hurtigruten fjord cruise over Christmas. It was lovely and we saw the aurora twice, once from the plane and secondly although faintly, on Boxing day night.
This picture was taken in the afternoon - we had very little daylight!! Hand held as my tripod was in my suitcase, see comment below.
Our luggage went missing, so we spent 6 days in our travelling clothes, not quite what we had planned over Christmas. We managed to buy some 'essentials', but nothing else as all shops were closed.
Stop reading now if you are short of time!
We were late arriving in Oslo due to bad weather at Heathrow, our cases were last off the carousel, we sprinted to the baggage drop off for Tromso and were too late! We were told to run to catch the plane and that the luggage would be on the next flight which was 2 hrs later. We explained that we were getting on a boat at 1am and leaving Tromso at 1.30am.
We arrived in Tromso and waited for the next flight. Our luggage was not there. We then reported the luggage missing . The lady on the help desk traced it and said it would be on the 5pm flight to Tromso the following day... useless.....!!
We decided just to get to the boat and hope.
The following day the receptionist on the boat managed to arrange for the cases to be sent to Bodø where we would be calling in for one and a half hours in the early hours of Christmas eve. The luggage was indeed sent to Bodø, NO taxi would take the cases on a 10 minute drive to our boat. Then Bodø airport closed for 2 days. Eventually, the receptionist insisted that our cases would be at Bergen for us to collect on our way home. They were, and we were at that stage only too grateful to get our things back.
It had taken the edge off the festivities a bit though.
