Started off the day thinking we'd go swimming, pop into Kirkintilloch, have a wander around Mugdock...then thought 'Bugger that, we can do that any old time', so ended up on the train to Edinburgh for a fantastic day out!

Straight out of Waverley, up the hill to see the Olympic rings. Argument about who saw them first, eldest won because apparently he saw them before he was even born. Can't argue with that. On to Edinburgh Castle where we saw lots of police and lots of Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. Yum. Down the Royal Mile where we say a couple of marching bands and lots of extremely posh people in extremely posh hats. Apparently Prince William was in Edinburgh being installed as a Royal Knight of the Most Ancient and Noble Order of the Thistle. Couldn't wait around for him and his gran (will send my apologies) because we had a date with a dinosaur skeleton in the National Museum of Scotland. If hubby had been there he would have despaired of our chaotic tour of the museum which basically involved us going up and down in elevators, seeing whatever took our fancy, in no particular order at all.

Next on the agenda was The Museum on the Mound. Loved this place! A money museum! There were lots of old bank notes, old coins, old printing plates, a safe to crack, coins to rub and coins to strike. The coin striking thing was great fun and the boys both came home with their own hand-struck replica of a 13th century Scottish silver penny from the reign of Alexander III. The blip shows a pile of money totalling one million pounds, all of which is stamped with 'Cancelled' unfortunately.

We're home now and I'm enjoying a glass of wine with my feet up. Priceless!
