One man and his dogs
So ok, you have to look for him, but I like that he is there.
Haven't been to Worthing for years and the lull in the rain today, coupled with a spot of brightness in the sky convinced us it was worth a trip. Lunch in Harry Ramsdens Fish Restaurant, complete with Yorkshire tea, but sadly it doesn't hold a candle to the original in Bradford which we remember as a starting out in a hut.
But the light over the Pier was beautiful. One of the most attractive South Coast piers, it has a chequered history, having been blown down, burnt down and blown up over the years. In 1913 it was damaged in a storm with only the south end remaining, separated from the land. In 1933, the pier was almost destroyed by fire. And in 1940, a hole was blown in the pier to prevent possible enemy landings.
Today there is a interesting display of art on glass along the central walk, commemorating the centenary of WW1, and it is the location for the annual Birdman competition which back in the day, used to be at Bognor.
Good afternoon in spite of a shower or two.
