Craigmillar Castle
The first bike ride of 2016 saw me leading the Spokes Ride to East Lothian. The wind was quite brisk and very cold. Due to glass on the cycle path, one person got a puncture. After waiting a while, I sent the group down to Musselburgh while I went back to see if any assistance was required.
This did take a bit of time out of the ride. It was going to be a short ride anyway as there is not a lot of daylight this time of year. So once regrouped at Fisherrow Harbour, we did a small loop up to Walleyford before heading to Inveresk for lunch.
After lunch it was back to Edinburgh through Craigmillar, passing Craigmillar Castle pictured, and then over the Braid Hills, with views of a tower castle and Edinburgh Castle. This route was also shorter than planned because people had to put up with a delay in the morning. While uphill, the easterly breeze blew us along, but there was enough effort cycling up hill to keep us fairly warm.
At the end of the ride, as it is the first ride, it ended at my house for coffee, festive goodies and good conversation.
