Remember the great crested grebe family? Well I took a trip up to the reservoir to see how they were progressing. They've still got their stripes (nearest I can do for stars and stripes for the USA contingent!) and have divided their parents up between them, not letting them out of their sight for a minute.
Both parents take their role very seriously and they seemed to be teaching them to fish today. At one stage one of the little ones caught a fish (got some shots but too far away) and mum (or dad) followed it keeping a very watchful eye as it struggled to get the thing down its throat.
4 fishermen tents were there but all zipped up so they had obviously been late night fishing! (It was 7.30am)
Have been prepping for the weekend today - 12 of us are off to the Lakes to celebrate my 60th. Food all over the place - and saying that I'd better go and finish apple pie.
Thanks everyone for their comments etc on my bedraggled goldfinch - apparently that hit the spotlight some time today. Very surprised at that! But pleased nonetheless.
