Carrying Cans on 5th Avenue

This fellow (not young) was heading north on 5th Avenue at about 94th Street on the Upper East side. I know that many persons depend on collecting soft drink cans to redeem them for their deposit, but I have never seen so many carried at once.

We were on our way to an exhibition of Edouard Vuillard's paintings at the Jewish Museum, followed by the Metropolitan Museum (mainly an extensive show of drawings from Germany and the rest of Central Europe 1400-1700--the earlier once are more interesting for me).
