Foam (... more Westhaven beach)
5.5C with rain to start the morning then a decent spell without rain. Very grey and dull. Wind to 24 mph with gusts to 33 mph during the day with gales and rain forecast for this evening and through to tomorrow. The weather forecast hadn't looked to bad for the second half of Thursday and was better for Friday, but since this morning several new weather warnings have been splashed across the map, the forecast has changed (surprise), and my depression is gaining new momentum as the next weather depression (low pressure system) approaches.
Maeve the Deerhound (with coat on) and I went for a walk after lunch hardly daring to think the rain might have stopped. Mary Chapin Carpenter on the Nano (Come On Come on, Stones in the Road, and Ashes and Roses on shuffle). We were to be in luck with the last drops of rain stopping before we reached the shore at Westhaven, although there was lots of spray down by the beach. We went down the road to the shore and the over the road bridge over the railway to have a look at the sea at Westhaven beach. There was some more water running off the field and onto the road to the shore but not too much. It was very blustery at the beach and there was a lot of foam being created at the shoreline today. The tide had not long turned and was starting to recede so few rocks were visible today.
We walked along the road to Carnoustie railway station for a bit of shelter then turned down to the seafront and walked along to the golf courses. The sea was right up to the sea wall and foam was being blown up and over the walkway onto the grass area and the car parks. We turned up by Simpson's golf shop with its sale sign which states its bold claim to be the second oldest golf shop in the world. We went up to the High Street and walked back along to rejoin our usual loop up the main road then turning along for home. For the first time in what seems like ages I didn't have to peel off soaked waterproofs.
