“please sir …. may I have some ….” “No”

Had a coronary CT scan this morning so no breakfast.  I’ve had lots of CT scans so I know the drill; but this one takes the biscuit. Unlike me.

It’s ….. unpleasant.  Or rather - the drugs that are injected and ingested are.  It gets off to  a bad start because it takes three goes to get the canula in my arm.  The underside of my tongue is sprayed with a chemical to dilate my blood vessels; “It’ll give you a headache”.  It gives me a headache.

It also sets my heart racing so the scan is stopped and I’m in injected with a beta-blocker to bring it back down.  Finally the tracer dye is introduced. We’re old hands - this one I know all about; “it’ll make you think you’ve wet yourself.”  Tick.

The radiographer explains that they won’t tell me when they going to switch it on; “we don’t want you to get stressed”.  They needn’t have worried; I’m quite prepared for what eventually happens.

In the end I do get the biscuit -they bring me one with a cup of tea while I wait for the canula to be removed.  I’m starving by the time I get home so I finish off the last piece of Christmas cake that Anniemay has selflessly saved for me.

ps; She wants me to point out that the bowl and cup used in this blip are not dirty - it’s simply shadows and processing artefacts.  They are spotlessly clean.  The thing on the spoon is me.
