Catastrophe!!!

Further to the devastating fires here yesterday - it’s worse!

The fire doubled in size overnight. The entire town of Yarloop has been razed. 95 homes destroyed. Three people unaccounted for. The school has burned. The hotel, police station, post office, fire station, railway museum, sporting club all gone.  The main arterial roads between Perth and the South West are closed until further notice.

The fire is still heading south west and more towns are under threat. There is more lightning around and this is another worry as lightning was the cause of the present fire.

This was the scene at Smiths Beach at around 7.00 this morning. (Long walk - damn fitbit again) Still feeling eerie, the smoke haze is intense. We are over 150kms from the fire and our house is covered with a layer of ash. We have to keep our windows closed because of the smoke.

I’ve just heard the three missing people have been found!  Thank heaven!

I will try and add an extra of a slippery beastie we saw on the way home - eeek!!
