Cygnets
A chill damp day, grey and overcast.
Still sorting out the Barn - my work room which adjoins the house. We had monsoon weather on Thursday along with a powerful east wind which resulted in flooding, through the junction between the verge of the roof and the gable wall of the house. The end wall and part of the floor was utterly soaked. Fortunately the builders came promptly the next day to repair a hairline crack in the mortar which let the rain through so with any luck this won't happen again. However it is taking time to completely dry the room out and get rid of the smell of damp.
We seem to have spent half the day pottering about, reading, practising classical guitar (me), working at needlepoint (HL) and snoozing, showering and keeping up with the social networking (J).
It seemed to be getting pretty dark already by 2.30 but there was a slight break in the clouds so Hanne Lene and I got out for a walk in Felbrigg Park. It is still very muddy underfoot. Down by the lake we met three cygnets who are just losing their juvenile plumage. They were very calm and friendly and swam over to us - perhaps in the hope of a snack though we had nothing to offer them (probably just as well - things like bread are not at all good for them). They made the most delightful chick-like chirruping sound and spent a few minutes dabbling near the bank before they sailed off into deeper waters.
