Carb(ish)Boy
CarbBoy is 11.
Scary, huh?
Anyway, he was poorly, so it wasn't a normal birthday at all. He specifically requested no surprises and no shouting. He eventually conceded that he would allow a very small amount of singing.
Sadly he was judged too ill to do the Panier d'Or competition. Though I think his disappointment will only really surface when he feels more human. So, we opened presents, and he was delighted (in a slightly snotty muted way) with everything, and then to make up for him being ill, we headed into Toulouse and (by the skin of our teeth after a 'wrong autoroute' incident) saw Star Wars in 3D. Having woken up with a dreadful cold myself, I can assuredly tell you that that is a rubbish movie for napping in. Even if you don't factor in the overexcited 6 year old next to me who was allowed to shout his questions as loud as he likes. You don't get that at the Dominion in Edinburgh...
So, it was just as good in French, though CarbBoy spotted a few places where the Edinburgh audience laughed, and the French audience didn't (I didn't spot those, so can't elucidate).
Home for pasta, cake and telly - the planned pizza feast being postponed to a time when CarbBoy feels more, well, carb-y.
As you can see, Mr B was entrusted with lighting the candles which, turns out, is his first time. He did good. As the kids get older and the candles more numerous, I think it's time for me to pass on the baton of candle-lighting to someone else.
