Kamal

Today I got to hang out with Kamal. He's a Syrian refugee. 
And a truly lovely human being. 
We went to the store to buy cupcakes for a holiday party at his children's elementary school.
He was so positive and happy about life despite the horror he has lived through. Military forces in Syria removed his kidney. Like, they took it from him. And he's spent about 14 months in prison.
The reporter was asking him about some of the things Texas politicians have been saying about Syrian refugees and his response was this: 
“We are human,” Kamal said. “We are not dog. Not snake. Not an animal. We are human.”
