Words with water

Like most, the rain. snow and sleet with their consequences dominates life.  I decided, Canute-style, to have words with water.

"Just stop it.  You are no longer welcome.  All those people and their sodden homes.  All those old bridges transformed to downstream wreckage.  All those fields and parks and roads and paths disabled.  All those swollen rivers greedy for more land and scouring new banks from the landscape.  All those hidden depths deceiving the most wary.  Enough is enough."

The rain drops became heavier and the ripples which they made became stronger.  Time for another conversation.

"Thank you for coming.  For life in the rivers and the burns and the streams and the life they sustain.  For the lushness of our glorious countryside.  For waiting in the ground until the roots are ready to drink.  For the reflections which double our delight.  For the sustenance my body needs to exist.  For the power and the noise and the beauty you bring.  Thank you."

The wind blew and the trees and the reeds and grasses rustled.  'Live WITH me', I heard.

PS - No rain forecast for tomorrow.
