Gate...and More!
Captured late in the afternoon, this gate is perhaps 50 meters down the street from the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, where we had just seen several exhibitions (all displayed on the MEP's home page--just scroll down). All were interesting, with a frequent focus on the Arab World. Bruno Barbey had the largest show; born in Morocco in 1941, he has seemingly photographed the entire world--superbly!
The message(s) of the gate are not clear--most legible is MERCI BIBI on the right. It must rotate to the left to open--the circular rail which the right end must track is faintly visible. For lunch we had our usual falafel sandwich (delicious as always) at L'As du Fallafel in the Rue des Rosiers (it's on the map, if you zoom in somewhat).
