Animal Rescue

After bringing in a dead mouse last week (I restrained from blipping it) the cat bought a not-dead bird in to the bedroom this morning.

Took me a while to work out what was going on but after shutting him firmly in another room, emptying a shoebox and finding a towel I managed to rescue it and put it under the radiator in the spare room.

It was very listless and had a bleeding tooth wound on its head but was still moving and reacting a bit. I went in an hour later and it was doing much better but flew out the box and is now hiding in my shoe rack - approx 25 pairs of shoes and boots on that one.

To anybody else this might not be a big deal but for me it is causing a massive and terrifying sense of deja vu.

Almost exactly the same thing happened when I was about five. Bird in shoebox, left it alone to recover, went back and it had disappeared. There was a window open so dad assumed it had flown away. Six months later I put on some snuggly socks and heard a crunch. The bird had crawled in to the sock and died and skeletonised and I was scarred for life.

I'll need to get all the shoes out later and go through them one by one until I find it-hopefully alive!

Update- I went in to search the shoes and it has now flown out of the house, seems to be fine despite the wound.

Update #2 it's not out the house it's in the kitchen refusing to come out

Update #3 dad came to help and after a lot of waiting it is now out the house :-) it is also a she and she seemed absolutely fine :-)
