Cairo return

I think I may have got 3 hours sleep before our 4am rise. It was too soon to say my goodbyes to home and Bcn, but our taxi arrived on cue at 4.45, flight to Rome, 4 hours to wait, then flight to Cairo. Bags arrived too, always a bonus. After the what's-become-usual wait for the driver to show up, the call to see where he is, while trying to look cool, fending off everyone trying to set you up with a taxi or help you make a phone call. If the driver was trying to make it difficult for us to find him or my name 'held up' on a crumpled up bit of paper, he did a good job. Eventually we sat back in the clean leather seats, clicked on our seat belts, enjoyed the soft music and let the air con calm us down while our polished, professional driver took control of the traffic. Well, not quite. No seat belts, booming music, windows wide open to let the pollution in and we wondered if our driver was actually someone's cousin from the BC travel agency doing a moonlighter. His music didn't blot out the Cairo horns though, nor did he manage it back to the flat without going up one street the wrong way. Anyway, arrived safe and sound! We got the flat organised and did most of our unpacking and setting up of our home for the month. We're 'home alone' this month and have it to ourselves! Picked up our dry cleaning left in December, topped up our Egyptian mobiles and put our Egyptian SIM cards in our iPads and topped them up too. Topped up our wifi router too and we were ready to go! We tried four places for food in Zamelek (after the tourist route taxi driver) without luck and are now having a burger in the hotel where we used to stay when I started coming here to run courses in 2011. Our table on the 10th floor has a Nile view and we're looking down on the mosque that introduced me to the call to prayer round the clock back then - I still love the sound! Fingers crossed that our taxi driver takes us straight home, with the meter on so we don't have to haggle. We're really tired, both working tomorrow, but right now really need sleep.
