Birds of Prey Aviary... Hair's Hawk
Today we visited the Bird's of Prey Aviary. The experience was thrilling and amazing! I choose to post the Hair's Hawk today. When we arrived One of the bird handlers came out with this hawk to stand with the guests until the tour began. I was within 3 ' of this bird. He was about 1#, recovering from an accident before he could be turned out in the wild again. It takes 6 most to 1 yr to regrow damaged feathers or a broken wing. I was amazed-thrilled- awed to stand so close that you could see the nostril, the individual feathers, watch the bird feed while he watched us.
The extra is the same bird, looking the way a hawk screech had come from that interrupted his meal. If you ever get to Charleston, this is a must.
